March Section News

The North Texas Section met on March 15th at Ernie’s Seafood in Ft. Worth. There were 13 members and guests in attendance to hear speaker Sam Robinson’s presentation on the topic “The Use of UV and Visible Light in MT/PT Inspections”. Sam is the Technical Director of Sherwin Incorporated in Burlington, KY. He is a graduate chemist from Northern Illinois University with over 25 years of experience in laboratory testing, formulating and usage of penetrant materials. Sam is an ASNT Fellow, active on several committees, and has served on the Board of Directors. Sam is also a member of SAE (active on Committee K - MT/PT AMS-Aerospace Specifications) and serves on the ASTM MT/PT committees as well as being the Vice Chairman of ASTM E7.03 (MT/PT) committee. Sam has served as a penetrant expert in a NTSB investigation of a missed penetrant indication, and is the penetrant consultant and manufacturers liaison to Iowa State University penetrant inspection research program. The presentation was well received from the diversified industry attendees, there were numerous questions on the use of UV lights and the effects that it has on the Nondestructive method.
